Description

Remington New Model Police Percussion Revolver

.36 caliber. 5.5" octagonal barrel. SN: 6487. Blued finish, silver plated brass triggerguard, varnished two-piece smooth walnut grips. Single action percussion revolver with five-chambered un-fluted cylinder, frame notch rear sight and German silver half-moon front sight blade. Barrel with three-line Remington address and patent information marking. Matching serial numbers stamped on left of frame under grip, under barrel and in pencil in both grips. As is typical of later production Remington percussion revolvers, the cylinder is not numbered. The frame number was initially stamped in error 9487 and a "6" was then stamped above the incorrect "9" when the workman noticed the mistake. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Very good. Bore very good, moderately oxidized and dirty with strong rifling. Barrel with some strong thinning blue that shows streaky flaking and loss, cylinder with some strong traces of blue, frame a moderately oxidized plum and brown color. Triggerguard with minute traces of tarnished silver. Mechanically functional action. Grips very good with some varnish, showing wear and finish loss, some scattered bumps and dings and a couple of minor chips at the sharp lower front and rear edges.
